I have surveyed the primaries in the 2008 Presidential Election, those around the country and the one in Ohio on March 4, with special interest. There seems to be new motivation behind the presidential election, which has been notably lacking in the past decade. Therefore, it seems necessary to bring up that the political primaries are not the Presidential Election. I watch as young voters throw their support behind their respective candidates, particularly Senator Obama, as if they are an invincible force that cannot be stopped. However, these are the primaries; the election has yet to occur. Just because a candidate does well in his party does not mean the country will elect them. Take Wisconsin: Barrack Obama won the state’s primary soundly, but there are only 59,000 or so registered democrats there. My concerns are rooted in the fact that young American voters are becoming unwittingly energized behind a candidate who may not have as much staying power when the general election comes. The political primaries are the equivalent of pee-wee football; the Presidential Election in November is the NFL. Thus, I make my final point: Follow your heart, but never lose your mortality.
